Our Nurses Are Involved in Our Community

As a testament to our excellence in nursing, Tampa General Hospital was conferred the prestigious Magnet® designation  from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) five times in a row. Our nurses are consistently recognized as outstanding leaders, collaborators, educators, researchers and mentors—in addition to being compassionate caregivers.

At TGH, the spirit of caring extends far beyond the bricks and mortar of our hospital. We believe that one of the best ways to improve health outcomes is to establish solid partnerships based on the needs of our local community. Our nurses in particular play an instrumental role in shaping the health of our community outside the traditional healthcare setting.

Improving the Health of our Community “Takes a Nurse”

  • Provide advice on nutrition and exercise
  • Take part in food drives for orphanages and families in need
  • Participate in the Great American Teach-In
  • Attend local town hall and school board meetings
  • Serve on the boards of professional nursing organizations
  • Organize fundraising efforts for local charities and health-related causes

Volunteering as a nurse is not always about providing healthcare services; in fact, some of these efforts do not require any nursing-specific skills at all. But they do require many of the same qualities TGH’s nurses bring to the job every day—teamwork, empathy, an ability to multi-task and an understanding of how our environment can affect our physical and mental well-being.

As trusted and engaged members of our community, TGH’s nurses set an example for others and continually promote good health and wellness outside their workplace.
