As Tampa Bay's first and only Level I Trauma Center, Tampa General Hospital is equipped to care for the most critically ill and injured adult and pediatric patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. TGH has dedicated resources including trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other surgical and non-surgical specialists, medical personnel, equipment, and facilities to treat the severely injured. In 2020, TGH had 92,277 total emergency department visits, with 11,595 of those being pediatric Emergency & Trauma Center visits. At the Brandon Healthplex Freestanding emergency department, there were a total of 31,431 visits, with 5,635 of those being pediatric.

Patients arrive by ambulance, helicopter, and car. Those patients arriving by car should follow signs to the Emergency & Trauma Center where they receive complimentary valet parking.
