As the region’s only, and one of Florida's leading academic health systems*, Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is dedicated to pioneering breakthrough treatments, conducting game-changing clinical research and training the next generation of health care professionals through our partnership with the newly designated Tier 1 USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, which has been ranked among the Top Medical Schools for Research by U.S. News & World Report.
TGH has been named one of Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2026, a prestigious recognition that highlights the academic health system’s leadership in leveraging advanced technologies to transform patient care. This marks the second consecutive year TGH has earned this honor, reflecting its strategic investments in artificial intelligence, digital imaging, and clinical automation. Through partnerships with innovators like GE Healthcare, Palantir Technologies, and Nuance, TGH has implemented cutting-edge tools—from AI-powered care coordination platforms to ambient listening solutions that streamline clinical documentation—enhancing efficiency, improving outcomes, and elevating the patient experience. This recognition underscores TGH’s commitment to redefining healthcare through research, innovation, and the intelligent use of technology.
World-class research is being strengthened and expanded by the TGH-USF Health Office of Clinical Research, which initiates, operates and coordinates clinical trials that look at new ways to prevent, detect and treat disease. With Morsani College of Medicine recognized as the No. 1 medical school in Florida, our partnership is further elevated, allowing us to drive even greater advancements in patient care and medical innovation.
Another key initiative in our mission of significantly advancing the future of health care in the Tampa Bay region, state of Florida and nationally is the creation of TGH Ventures. Launched in November 2020, this venture capital fund is dedicated to driving a culture of innovation across our academic health system through the support of early-stage startups and direct investments. Through TGH Ventures, we have partnered with Embarc Collective, Tampa Bay’s innovation hub and education nonprofit that helps startups grow into scalable, thriving businesses.
