Tampa General is the Top-Ranked Hospital in the Tampa Bay Region for the 10th Year in a Row, According to U.S. News & World Report

Tampa General, the region’s only academic health system, is recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals in six medical specialties and ranks among the top 10% in five additional medical specialties.
Tampa, FL (July 29, 2025) – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is once again and for the 10th straight year, the #1 hospital in the Tampa Bay region, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings. Tampa General continues its reign as one of Florida’s top hospitals and earns recognition as one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation in multiple specialties.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Tampa General is ranked #5 in the nation and #1 in Florida for Obstetrics and Gynecology and ranks among the nation’s top 50 hospitals in six medical specialties:
- Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery – ranked #43 in the U.S. and #3 in Florida
- Diabetes & Endocrinology – ranked #36 in the U.S. and #3 in Florida
- Ear, Nose & Throat – ranked #28 in the U.S. and #2 in Florida
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery – ranked #21 in the U.S. (tie) and #2 in Florida
- Obstetrics & Gynecology – ranked #5 in the U.S. and highest ranked in Florida
- Urology – ranked #28 in the U.S. (tie) and #2 in Florida
Tampa General is also ranked among the top 10% of U.S. hospitals in five additional specialties:
Additionally, Tampa General is rated "high performing" in 18 medical procedures or conditions, including abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, acute kidney failure, back surgery (spinal fusion), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart arrhythmia, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma (blood cancers), lung cancer surgery, pacemaker implantation, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery and stroke.
Tampa General and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine — the top-ranked medical school in the state and among the top 20 in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report — comprise the Tampa Bay region’s only academic health system, which has also been ranked among the top 25% of academic medical centers in the nation by Vizient, Inc. For the 2025-2026 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions; only 13% of evaluated hospitals earned a “Best Hospitals” designation.

To calculate the “Best Hospitals” rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and the level of nursing care. The “Best Hospitals” Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from more than 800 million records of patient care provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
