World-Class Lung Cancer Care

At Tampa General, our Lung Cancer Center is a nationally recognized program that specializes in the surgical treatment of pulmonary and lung diseases. We frequently diagnose and treat high volumes of the most complex and advanced cases of lung cancer, providing optimal results for our patients in the direst of circumstances.

Highest Volume Center for Complex Lung Cancer in Florida

Our thoracic surgeons are among the most experienced in their field having performed thousands of cardiothoracic surgeries, as well as hundreds of robotic-assisted procedures to treat patients with lung cancer. Dr. Sommers, director the Lung Cancer Center, mastered the minimally invasive robotic lobectomy technique for lung cancer, which has garnered him national recognition and is now used as a teaching tool for other thoracic surgeons.

Multidisciplinary, Collaborative Team

It’s rare for a cancer treatment team to be as highly integrated as ours is at Tampa General. The team, which includes pulmonologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and other specialists, takes a collaborative approach to treatment.

We are fully invested in advocating for our patients and our range of expertise allows us to quickly identify problems and solve them instantaneously, from pre-op to post-op. Our focus is on creating individualized treatment plans that help lung cancer patients maintain their quality of life and provide the highest likelihood for a positive outcome.
