Tampa, FL (Dec. 9, 2025) – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has been recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA), placing it among an elite group of hospitals nationwide and making it one of only four centers in Florida and the only one on the West Coast of Florida to achieve this distinction.
This designation reflects TGH’s commitment to world-class cardiovascular care and builds on its reputation as one of the nation’s leading heart programs. U.S. News & World Report ranks Tampa General Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for Cardiology & Heart Surgery, underscoring its leadership in advanced heart care.
“This recognition speaks to the strength of our multidisciplinary approach,” said Dr. Robby Wu, Director of the HCM Program at Tampa General Hospital and Assistant Professor at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. “Our team combines cutting-edge diagnostics, innovative therapies and personalized care to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. HCM is such a complex and unique disease process — each patient deserves dedicated, tailored and multidisciplinary care. We are proud to be able to provide this comprehensive service to our patients and are honored to partner with the HCMA.”
The HCMA Center of Excellence designation is awarded to programs that demonstrate exceptional quality, safety and innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of HCM, a complex heart condition that affects approximately 1 in 500 people worldwide. TGH’s program offers comprehensive care, including advanced imaging, genetic counseling, medical management and surgical interventions.
“By integrating advanced therapies and research-driven care, we are setting a new standard for heart health in Florida and beyond,” said Dr. Ben Mackie, Vice President and Co-Chief of Tampa General’s Heart & Vascular Institute. “This designation reinforces our mission to deliver exceptional outcomes for every patient.”
“HCMA Centers of Excellence save lives every day through skilled diagnoses, preventative care and multidisciplinary HCM treatment,” said Lisa Salberg, Founder and CEO of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association. “We are thrilled to welcome Tampa General Hospital to our prestigious roster of Centers of Excellence.”
