Pediatric Emergency and Trauma | Tampa General Hospital

At the Muma Children's Hospital at TGH, our pediatric trauma referral center is staffed by physicians and nurses who specialize in pediatric emergency medicine and provide around-the-clock services other hospitals can’t for truly complex multisystem trauma cases.

Tampa General’s Level I trauma center for adults and children is the first and only program in Florida to achieve verification from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the quality of its trauma care. We also have an emergency room designed specifically for children’s unique needs.

Our pediatric trauma specialists include surgeons and neurosurgeons who provide the highest level of care along with a multidisciplinary team that specializes in the treatment of patients with burns and other serious skin wounds within our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Tampa General is one of just four burn centers in Florida and the first burn center in the state to earn verification by the American Burn Association/American College of Surgeons.

In addition to being a health care leader in Tampa Bay, we treat pediatric patients with severe or life-threatening injuries throughout the state. Tampa General transports critically ill or injured patients from 23 surrounding counties aboard our six Aeromed helicopters equipped with the most advanced life support equipment.

World-Class Care and Support for Children

The Muma Children's Hospital at TGH provides a wide range of support services essential to a child’s well-being during recovery. Our team includes child life specialists, schoolteachers working in a classroom for patients staying at the hospital for an extended period of time, psychologists, case managers, social workers, and pediatric occupational and physical therapists.

It's because of the level of compassionate care we provide to our pediatric patients and their families that Tampa General was recognized on Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2023 list.
