The planned 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Spring Hill, expected to open in the second half of 2028, will expand access to specialized stroke, brain and spinal cord injury, and neurological rehabilitation care for patients in Hernando County and surrounding communities.

SPRING HILL, Fla. and BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (Nov. 5, 2026) – Building on their existing relationship in the greater Tampa market, Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, today announced plans to expand access to specialized rehabilitation care through the development of a new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Spring Hill.

Pending customary regulatory approvals, the partners plan to develop the freestanding facility near the campus of TGH Spring Hill. Expected to open in the second half of 2028, the hospital will provide comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services for patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, trauma, amputation and other complex medical conditions.

"As Tampa General continues to grow across the state, we are focused on ensuring that patients have access to the specialized care they need at every stage of their healthcare journey," said Stacey Brandt, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, and president of the Community and Specialty Hospital Division at Tampa General Hospital. "Expanding our partnership with Lifepoint Rehabilitation allows us to bring high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services closer to home for patients and families in Hernando County and surrounding communities, while strengthening the continuum of care across our regional network."

The new rehabilitation hospital will offer an intensive, multidisciplinary approach to recovery, bringing together specialized physicians, nurses, therapists and care teams in an environment designed specifically for rehabilitation. The facility will feature advanced rehabilitation technologies and individualized treatment programs focused on helping patients achieve their highest level of function and independence.

This project represents the second inpatient rehabilitation hospital partnership between Tampa General Hospital and Lifepoint Rehabilitation in the greater Tampa market and underscores the organizations' ongoing commitment to expanding access to high-quality post-acute care across the state.

"As our relationship with Tampa General Hospital continues to grow, we have an opportunity to build upon a shared vision for delivering exceptional rehabilitation care," said Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Rehabilitation. "The new Spring Hill facility will complement our existing work together in the region while creating additional opportunities to help patients achieve meaningful recoveries closer to home."

The hospital will strengthen rehabilitation services available throughout Hernando County and surrounding communities while supporting Tampa General's broader efforts to expand healthcare access across its growing regional network. Together, the organizations are investing in resources that will help meet the region's long-term healthcare needs and provide patients with a seamless continuum of care close to home.
