Tampa, FL (September 3, 2025) – Marion Dawkins, senior vice president of ambulatory operations at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), has been named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 class of 2025. This recognition reflects Dawkins’ commitment to igniting Tampa General’s growth by leading strategic acquisitions, streamlining operations and building high-performing teams across the academic health system’s diverse ambulatory services.
In her role, Dawkins oversees Tampa General’s urgent care services, corporate health and wellness, clinic operations for the Tampa General Medical Group, surgery centers and team member health, ensuring strategic growth, operational excellence and clinical innovation while driving quality improvement, enhancing the patient experience and optimizing workflows.
“Marion is a standout example of how we strive to invest in the professional development of our team members, cultivating long-term, successful careers within our organization,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General. “Her leadership has been instrumental in not only the meteoric growth of our ambulatory services and footprint, but in the growth of the team members she mentors. We are incredibly proud to see her earn this well-deserved recognition by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as one of the Tampa Bay business community’s rising stars.”
After establishing expertise in revenue cycle management and provider relations, Dawkins first joined Tampa General as a senior business development analyst, where she played an instrumental role in launching the health system’s ambulatory division. She spent the next 11 years growing her career with Tampa General, progressing through management and director roles, spearheading significant expansions like the TGH Outpatient Center, Tampa General’s first large-scale ambulatory facility featuring a freestanding emergency department, ambulatory surgery center and more. Additionally, she has continued to grow Tampa General’s burgeoning network by leading strategic real estate and physician practice acquisitions, as well as the health system’s expansion into Babcock Ranch with an urgent care clinic, innovation center and primary care services. Her transformational work has also positioned Tampa General to earn national recognition by Newsweek for the quality of care delivered by its ambulatory surgery centers.
“Thanks, in large part, to Marion’s exceptional work and through strategic partnerships and acquisitions, Tampa General’s footprint has expanded from 17 to 150 ambulatory care locations,” said Adam Smith, executive vice president and chief ambulatory care officer at Tampa General. “Her leadership has significantly expanded access to health care in our community and across the state, and her emphasis on preventative care and wellness initiatives has empowered many to take charge of their health, resulting in improved outcomes.”
Outside of her professional role, Dawkins is committed to serving the Tampa Bay community as president of the board of directors for the Florida Endoscopy & Surgery Center and as a board member for InterHealth Staffing, where she directly shapes the future of these critical health entities, ultimately benefiting patient access and care quality within the community. She also culminated her alum status with Leadership Tampa Bay in 2024, indicating a personal investment in continuous networking and community leadership development.
“It’s an honor to be recognized alongside an impressive cohort of business leaders across our Tampa Bay community,” said Dawkins. “This recognition reflects the commitment of our collective team to advancing access to essential health care services beyond the hospital walls, and I’m proud to grow in my career with an organization that invests in its people, drives innovation in outpatient settings and works to improve the health of the community we serve.”
