It is the third consecutive year the academic health system has been recognized as a world leader in the use of technology, including artificial intelligence to improve patient care.

Tampa, FL (December 1, 2025) – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has once again been recognized as one of the World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2026 by Newsweek and Statista for its continued investment in technologies to increase efficiency, reduce costs and support the delivery of world-class patient care. The academic health system was ranked the #1 smart hospital in Tampa Bay and among the top 10 in Florida.

“Our consistent ranking among the world’s leading smart hospitals is the result of years of ongoing strategic investment in digital capabilities and our unwavering focus on transforming the way we care for patients,” said Scott Arnold, executive vice president and chief digital and information officer at Tampa General Hospital. “Whether it’s harnessing the power of AI and analytics to strengthen patient safety and reduce administrative burdens or expanding access to world-class care through our TGH at Home program, we are committed to using technology to elevate the standard of care for our patients and the industry more broadly.”

The World’s Best Smart Hospitals ranking recognizes 350 leading hospitals across 30 countries worldwide that are transforming patient care through advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, telemedicine, and patient safety innovations, and are leading the healthcare industry into the future.

Tampa General’s inclusion on this year’s ranking follows the expansion of the academic health system’s partnership with Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE: PLTR) (“Palantir”) to deploy the company’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) and deliver a Care Coordination Operating System, which securely encodes Tampa General’s domain expertise, real-time situational awareness and large-language models into decision-support tools to power eligibility and prioritization workflows for front-line teams across all aspects of care operations. Tampa General is also leveraging this platform to automate other system workflows, including revenue cycle management. Applying AI and advanced analytics, Tampa General has:

  • Saved over 700 lives as of November 2025 and reduced length of stay by 30% for sepsis patients using the Sepsis Hub application
  • Realized a 30% improvement in MRI imaging turnaround time within the flagship academic medical center
  • Saw an 83% reduction in patient placement time and a 28% decrease in post-anesthesia care unit holds using the Care Progression Navigator application

Additionally, in partnership with Microsoft, Tampa General has rolled out AI-powered ambient listening solutions to more than 1,100 affiliated physicians and the health system’s nursing teams to increase productivity and job satisfaction while enhancing patient experience and quality of care.

In June 2025, the Tampa General Enterprise Analytics Team was awarded Stage 7 certification by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the world’s leading non-profit advocacy and accrediting organization in the health care IT industry. Tampa General became the first health system in Florida to achieve this designation, which recognizes analytics teams that have achieved a high level of maturity using the Analytics Maturity Assessment Model (AMAM), an eight-stage (0-7) roadmap for advancing innovative decision-making through the use of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.

The World’s Best Smart Hospitals ranking is determined based on an international online survey of hospital managers and health care professionals with knowledge about smart hospitals, Statista Smart Hospitals Maturity Survey and Joint Commission International hospital accreditation and independent research.
