Tampa General treats the following disorders of the head and neck:

Facial Nerve Neuroma – A non-malignant tumor of the facial nerve that can cause paralysis or weakness of the facial muscles. Treatment involves removing the tumor and, when necessary, reconstructing the facial nerve, usually by grafting a skin sensation nerve from the neck.

Head and Neck Cancers and Benign Masses – Tampa General provides comprehensive diagnostic services for head and neck tumors, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), endoscopy and laryngeal videostroboscopy. We also provide a range of medical and surgical treatment options including expanded use of laser resection of head and neck malignancies and in provide treatment for all forms of head and neck skin cancers - melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. TGH offers microvascular reconstructive surgery of the head and neck, one of the most advanced options available for rehabilitation of surgical defects related to the removal of head and neck tumors. The tissues of the head and neck have unique characteristics, and by borrowing tissue from other parts of the body, our surgeons are able to reconstruct most areas of the head and neck in a manner that restores the patient's function and improves aesthetic appearance. Approximately 50-70 microvascular reconstructive procedures are performed each year at TGH, making us one of the busiest hospitals in the country for cases of this complex surgical operation.
