Tampa General’s Division of Advanced Practice provides an Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Accreditation (APPFA) fellowship program designed specifically for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. As of June 2025, Tampa General is the first and only academic medical center in the state of Florida to achieve APPFA and the 49th accredited program globally. APP fellows at Tampa General have the opportunity to increase their clinical competencies and skills while learning from career experts at our academic health system.
What is APP Fellowship Accreditation?
Accreditation of an APP fellowship program is a formal recognition awarded by an external accrediting body that ensures a program meets or exceeds national standards of quality, structure, and educational excellence. Accreditation affirms that the APP fellowship provides a robust, structured post-graduate training experience for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, preparing them both for advanced clinical practice in a chosen specialty.
At Tampa General, our APP fellowship program is proud to be accredited by the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Accreditation (APPFA), a nationally recognized organization dedicated to advancing post-graduate education for APPs.
Why Accreditation Matters
- Quality Assurance: Accreditation confirms that the program delivers comprehensive, evidence-based clinical education aligned with best practices and safety standards.
- Professional Development: It demonstrates a commitment to professional growth, clinical competence, and life-long learning for APPs transitioning into specialized or complex care settings.
- Structured Mentorship: Accredited programs ensure APPs receive formal mentorship, hands-on training, and evaluation throughout their APP fellowship.
- Career Advancement: Graduating from an accredited APP fellowship program is a mark of excellence that is increasingly recognized by employers, professional organizations, and credentialing bodies.
