Our Purpose

Tampa General’s Advanced Practice Council comprises Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) representing a wide range of specialties and service areas across the organization, including both inpatient and outpatient settings. This diverse, multidisciplinary membership ensures broad perspectives and collaborative input that strengthen institutional practice and innovation.

The Advanced Practice Council at Tampa General Hospital serves as a strategic platform where APPs come together to discuss key issues, share insights, and disseminate critical updates from clinical and committee work that impact APPs across the healthcare continuum.

Guided by a shared governance model, the Council fosters unity among APPs and strengthens collaborative relationships with medical and nursing leadership—promoting a culture of partnership, transparency, and mutual respect.

APPs are empowered through meaningful leadership opportunities on hospital-wide, service line, and departmental committees—ensuring their voices influence decision-making, elevate APP visibility, and contribute to the continued evolution of advanced practice roles within the organization.

Core objectives if the Council include:
  • Reviewing and providing strategic feedback on new or ongoing initiatives affecting APPs.
  • Sharing updates from diverse institutional committees where APPs actively participate.
  • Promoting a strong, positive image of APPs throughout Tampa General, aligned with the hospital’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Eliminating barriers to practicing at the top of licensure and advancing APP autonomy.
  • Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration across care teams.
  • Encouraging APP-led community engagement and outreach.

Leadership Opportunities

Participation in the Advanced Practice Council is entirely voluntary, offering APPs the opportunity to serve in key leadership roles such as Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Chair and Co-Chair positions, elected by peers, commit to two-year terms, while the Secretary and Treasurer roles span one year.

Engagement in the Council reflects an APP’s dedication to shaping institutional practice beyond the bedside—demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership, professional growth, and the advancement of the advanced practice community within Tampa General.

The TGH Advanced Practice Provider Conference

The Advanced Practice Council proudly hosts the annual Tampa General Advanced Practice Conference, a signature event offering CME/CEU credits to participating APPs. This empowering conference is designed to educate, inspire, and honor the incredible work of our APP community—providing an inclusive space for learning, connection, and celebration.

Attendees have the opportunity to engage with expert speakers and institutional leaders, explore APP-specific topics across diverse medical specialties, receive updates on healthcare legislation, and stay informed on the latest developments from the Advanced Practice Council and leadership teams within Tampa General.
