Comprehensive Bariatric Care at Tampa General Hospital
TGH + USF Health Bariatric Center offers a comprehensive range of services for individuals who are dealing with obesity and its associated health effects. The TGH + USF Bariatric Center was named a Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). We provide each patient with the physical, pharmaceutical and psychological support they need to achieve a healthier weight and lifestyle. Within a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, we provide both surgical and non-surgical bariatric services, helping patients not only lose weight but improve their overall health.
At TGH, patients have the opportunity to work with a multispecialty team of bariatric experts, including surgeons, endocrinologists, bariatricians, registered nurses, psychologists, dietitians, and exercise physiologists, in a single, convenient location. In a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, patients can obtain a comprehensive range of bariatric services, including:
- Comprehensive wellness assessments
- Nutritional interventions
- Physician-supervised (non-surgical) rapid weight loss programs
- Physician-supervised (non-surgical) weight maintenance programs
- Bariatric surgery education
- Bariatric surgery support groups
- Psychological assistance
- Gastric bypass surgeries
- Sleeve gastrectomies
- Adjustable gastric banding procedures
- Revisional bariatrics surgeries
- Post-operative care programs and long-term support
Most bariatric services are available to patients 16 years of age and older. To better individualize the care we provide to our patients, we offer a traditional adult bariatric surgery program as well as an adolescent bariatric surgery program. We are accredited as a Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Qualifications by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).
Candidates for either bariatrics program must meet specific criteria, including BMI (body mass index) requirements. Additionally, surgical candidates must complete our bariatrics counseling program before undergoing weight loss surgery. This program is designed to equip patients with an effective range of tools to increase the likelihood of meaningful, long-term weight loss. We have helped more than 5,000 patients achieve healthy weights and lifestyles; click here to learn more about how former NFL players are losing weight with help from TGH + USF Health Bariatric Program.
