Tampa, FL (November 7, 2025) – Mark Runyon, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review, earning a spot on the media outlet’s lists of “hospital and health system CFOs to Know” and “academic medical center CFOs to Know,” for 2025. This dual honor underscores Runyon’s exceptional financial leadership and his pivotal role in driving sustainable, strategic growth for Tampa General.
In his capacity as chief financial officer for Tampa General, Runyon leads and oversees all financial services for Tampa General across the complete system of care for the community, region and state. He collaborates closely with the president and CEO, Board of Directors, senior leaders, and the entire Tampa General team to create an ecosystem of continuous improvement, focusing on innovation, financial stability and performance, operational efficiency and integrity. Day-to-day, Runyon ensures Tampa General has the resources, strategy and talent to deliver timely and responsive patient billing support, supplies needed to provide world-class patient care and responsive patient-friendly scheduling.
Under Runyon’s leadership, Tampa General has achieved remarkable growth in market share across Florida, extending its reach from one hospital with 17 care locations in 2017, to six hospitals and more than 150 care locations in just six years. Furthermore, Runyon plays an integral role in the strategic planning and execution of the academic health system’s five-year, $550 million Master Facility Plan — the most substantial capital commitment in the organization’s history.

Runyon played a vital role in the successful acquisition and integration of the Bravera Health network, now known as TGH North, into the Tampa General Health System He led all financial aspects of the transaction, including obtaining debt financing, implementing core financial systems, and transitioning the acquisitions to TGH accounting, payroll, accounts payable, decision support, managed care contracting and reimbursement. With the addition of TGH North, Tampa General’s academic health system now encompasses six hospitals, more than 150 care locations and nearly 15,000 team members and providers.
