Tampa, FL (June 9, 2025) – Dr. Peter Chang, senior vice president and chief transformation officer at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), has been named as one of Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives for 2025. This recognition honors Chang’s continued commitment to revolutionizing health care design and delivery, improving patient outcomes and driving innovation at Tampa General.

In his role, Chang is responsible for the design and implementation of forward-looking health care strategies to improve clinical quality, efficiency and care coordination, while decreasing the total cost of care at Tampa General. Chang and his team ensure the organization is harnessing the power of technology and strategic partnerships to enable efficiency, patient centricity, growth and value creation.

“In his tenure as our chief transformation officer, Pete has brought innovative, effective solutions to some of the most complex service lines and programs at Tampa General,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General. “As a physician first, Pete carries a patient-centric approach with him in everything he does, and it shows through his success in driving our care strategy toward continued improvement of patient outcomes.”

Under Chang’s guidance, Tampa General continues to pioneer advancements in health care delivery. One of his most notable achievements is the ongoing success and expansion of Tampa General’s Hospital at Home program, which launched in 2022. The program provides high-quality acute care in a home setting, achieving readmission rates of approximately 4-5%, compared to 17-18% for inpatient care at the academic health system. Patient experience scores for the program are consistently 30-40% higher than those for traditional inpatient care, with zero reported pressure injuries or hospital-acquired infections since its inception.

Since 2024, the program has doubled its average daily census every three to four months, serving more than 1,000 patients to date.

"Dr. Chang's vision and leadership have been instrumental in transforming our approach to patient care," said Stacey Brandt, executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Tampa General. "His dedication to innovation and collaboration in combination with his patient-centric approach has not only improved outcomes but has also positioned Tampa General as a leader in the health care industry."

Chang played a key role in the evolution of Tampa General Hospital’s clinical command center, transitioning from CareComm to the newly launched Care Coordination Center (C3). C3 leverages Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform to enhance care coordination across Tampa General. The new platform integrates real-time situational awareness and advanced workflows to support care teams across ambulatory, acute and post-acute settings. By automating non-clinical tasks and eliminating bottlenecks, C3 enables providers to focus on delivering timely, high-quality care. Chang’s contributions to this initiative underscore his commitment to enhancing health care delivery through technology and collaboration, ensuring that patients receive seamless, coordinated care at every stage.

Because of Chang’s commitment to pioneering the future of care coordination, Tampa General has cemented itself as a leader and innovator shaping the academic and health care landscapes – both in Florida and nationally. His work is reducing friction points for patients and team members, improving accessibility and affordability of world-class patient care, creating novel strategies to increase patient engagement and raising the bar for the health care industry.

“I am honored to be recognized by Modern Healthcare, a reflection of the efforts of my extended Tampa General team,” said Chang. “I am fortunate to work alongside a group of passionate colleagues who are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in health care to improve patient outcomes.”
