Surgery Information

Tampa General Hospital is closely monitoring the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and the impact this is having on hospitals in the Tampa Bay region. As the numbers continue to rise, Tampa General is slowing down some of our non-emergent elective surgeries that require admission to the hospital effective Wednesday, Aug. 11. This allows us to create more capacity for patient beds and staffing.

The hospital, working closely with OR Governance, is taking a phased approach to this temporary move which does not impact our ability to perform urgent and emergent surgeries. Cases that can be safely paused without negatively impacting the health of the patient will be rescheduled. Patients will be notified by their physicians in collaboration with OR leadership. This is a fluid situation, and we will continue to update you as things change.
