- Ultrasound physics and knobology
- How to obtain point of care ultrasound cardiac windows in the evaluation of cardiac pathology (LV function. RV function, tamponade)
- How to obtain point of care thoracic windows in the evaluation of pulmonary pathology (pleural effusion, pulmonary edema, pneumothorax, consolidation)
- Putting it all together: how to apply POCUS applications in the clinical setting (a case-based approach)
- Attendance of the 4-hour hands-on scanning course
Providers who complete the pre-coursework and hands-on scanning course will receive a letter detailing what the course covered and how many exams were completed that may be used towards future POCUS privilege requirements.
Objectives:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of ultrasound physics, including image generation principles and the effective use of controls and settings (knobology) to optimize image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
- Identify the key components and recommended sequence for conducting a focused cardiac ultrasound exam.
- Distinguish the sonographic features of reduced ejection fraction, pulmonary embolism, and pericardial effusion.
- Identify the sonographic characteristics of pneumothorax, lung consolidation, pleural effusion, and pulmonary edema.
- Enhance participants’ knowledge to improve the performance and interpretation of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) examinations.
Design, Implement, Disseminate: A Hands-On Workshop in Quality Improvement
