BALANCE & VESTIBULAR DISORDERS

Vestibular Rehabilitation

The Vestibular Rehabilitation program is designed to diminish symptoms of dizziness or loss of balance associated with vestibular dysfunction. Patients’ symptoms include dizziness, vertigo, nausea, balance problems, motion sickness. Onset of symptoms can be gradual or sudden. This can result from a fall, stroke, brain injury or other traumatic injuries or diseases as well as from dysfunctions within the vestibular system such as BPPV, peripheral vestibular dysfunction, vestibular neuritis, acoustic neuroma and migraine associated dizziness, among others.

During the initial evaluation the therapist will ask you questions about the onset of symptoms, what makes it worse, what makes it better, and complete a series of tests. This will help the therapist create an individualized treatment plan that fits your needs. The therapist will work with you on exercises to reduce your dizziness, improve your balance and improve your functional independence. The therapist will also provide education and training to your caregiver(s) to ensure that you are able to practice these exercises at home.
