Biofeedback Therapy is an evidence-based treatment that you can use to manage a multitude of different conditions. Biofeedback helps you learn more about how your body works. This information may help you to develop better control over certain body functions and address a variety of health concerns.
Biofeedback therapy uses sensors that attach to your body to measure key bodily functions. At Tampa General Hospital Medical Village this may include the use of sensors to monitor muscle activity, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and perspiration. This information will be displayed for you to see on a computer monitor. You will be able to see real time changes in key body functions. The goal is for you to learn tools that will help you modify physical processes that can impact your ability to perform daily activities, decrease your pain, impact your ability to perform self-care or adapt to stress.
Sessions begin with an assessment to identify activities and situations that may be impacting your physiological functioning, such as changes in muscle activity leading to increased pain or how your stress response is impacting your health. You may attend once a week, every two weeks or once a month for 45 minutes each visit. During the course of therapy, you will learn nonpharmacological tools to help you improve your functioning. You will then practice these techniques in your daily living environment and be able to learn how to use these tools independently over the course of your lifetime.
Sessions are in a 1-1 environment with a Certified Biofeedback Therapist. Patients will learn self-management strategies to promote lasting functional improvements.
