INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY

Tampa General Medical Group’s interventional cardiologists bring a patient-centered approach to high-tech procedures.

Patients are referred from other centers to our group for diagnosis and treatment of high-risk and complex forms of coronary artery disease and intractable angina (chest pain). Our cardiologists are skilled in the use of interventional cardiology to diagnose and treat such issues as coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease. Often, blockages of the heart are assessed and removed with the use of interventional procedures such as angiography, angioplasty and stenting. TGMG physicians perform all interventional cardiology procedures at Tampa General Hospital.

TGMG’s interventional cardiologists provide patients with expert diagnosis, access to Tampa General Hospital’s state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory, consultation with other specialties when needed, and the option of continued care with our group.

What is cardiac catheterization?

Cardiac catheterization, also called cardiac cath or coronary angiogram, is an invasive imaging procedure that allows your doctor to evaluate your heart function. Cardiac catheterization is used to:

  • Evaluate or confirm the presence of coronary artery disease, valve disease or disease of the aorta.
  • Evaluate heart muscle function
  • Determine the need for further treatment (such as an interventional procedure or coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG, surgery)
