Liver and Hepatobiliary Oncology
Tampa General Hospital's Liver Cancer and Hepatobiliary Oncology Program specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all hepatobiliary cancers, including:
- Liver cancer
- Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)
- Bile duct cancer
- Gallbladder cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Gastric (stomach) cancer
We excel in treating cancers that have metastasized (spread) to the hepatobiliary organs from other areas of the body and have an in-depth understanding of how these cancers may be connected to diseases such as diabetes and hepatitis.

TGH is improving the way liver, gallbladder, bile duct, pancreatic and gastric cancers are treated through innovations in surgical care. We are among a select few cancer centers in the region to offer HIPEC, a type of chemotherapy that is performed alongside tumor removal surgery to deliver cancer-fighting medications directly into the abdominal cavity.
TGH participates in clinical trials for:
- Unresectable cancer
- Organ transplantation
- The epidemiology of organ transplant
- Liver recovery after liver resections
- Therapy before resection for pancreatic cancer
- Irreversible electroporation (IRE) for pancreatic cancer
These trials provide an opportunity for patients to become enrolled in trailblazing studies that might not be available elsewhere. Our renowned surgical expertise has contributed to our status as one of America's Best Hospitals in 2020-2021 for Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and a High Performing Hospital for Cancer by U.S. News & World Report.
A distinguishing factor of TGH’s Liver Cancer and Hepatobiliary Oncology Program is our community-based approach to treatment. Our specialists collaborate closely with primary care providers and referring physicians from practices throughout the region to ensure a seamless and convenient care experience. Our patients are our foremost priority, and we go the extra mile to eliminate hassles and roadblocks that may interfere with their care, such as lengthy appointment wait times, referral delays and unproductive in-person visits. When appropriate, our patients may take advantage of telehealth services.
