World-Class Gynecology Cancer Treatment
Tampa General Hospital’s gynecology oncology program is one of the most comprehensive cancer care programs in the state of Florida. As an academic center with an experienced team of surgeons, physicians, nurses, radiologists, oncologists, intensivists and other medical professionals, we can care for even the most medically complex patients.
Additionally, our all-encompassing approach to cancer treatment allows us to offer services not found at other cancer centers, such as:
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
Ours is the first center in the area doing large volumes of a treatment called hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). All visible tumors are removed immediately prior to HIPEC. During the procedure, a surgeon delivers and circulates a heated chemotherapy solution throughout the abdominal cavity to kill any remaining cancer cells.
Our program is the only one the state to offer palliative medicine as part of gynecologic cancer care, and few cancer care programs have it at all. Focused on providing an excellent quality of life for patients, our palliative care program helps patients cope and be comfortable throughout long journey of diagnosis and treatment, and includes:
- Pain, nausea, depression, anxiety and other symptom management for the patient
- Psychosocial management for the patient and their family
- Non-pharmacological options, including meditation
Additional Treatment Options
Other treatments for gynecologic cancers include:
- Standard intraperitoneal chemotherapy
- Molecular targeted therapy
- Radiation therapy including HDR brachytherapy and TomoTherapy®
- Hi-Art® treatment
- Surgery, including minimally invasive, robotic and reconstruction
- Evaluations after abnormal pap results
We Define Medicine
Our experts run and are involved with multiple national cancer trials that look at the role of genetic testing and other therapies. Based on some of our recent trials, new novel therapies for ovarian cancer are in development and include genetically targeted therapies. We are the forefront of cancer research and are helping to shape the gynecological cancer treatment landscape.
