Brain tumor treatment is one of the primary focuses of Tampa General Hospital. Our team has extensive experience treating tumors of the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system. This not only includes the more common neurological cancers, such as gliomas, but also rare brain tumor types and other solid tumors that have metastasized to the brain. At Tampa General Hospital, we take a team approach to brain tumor treatment. Neuro-oncology patients receive care from a collaborative group of surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and supportive care specialists including nutritionists and integrative medicine specialists. This team designs an individualized treatment plan based on specific factors such as the type and stage of a patient’s brain tumor. Throughout the treatment cycles, our team monitors the patient’s response and recommends any adjustments that might be necessary. As a result, patients not only benefit from multiple professional opinions in a single location, but also from individualized care plans that are adapted to meet any challenges that arise throughout the duration of their treatment. The diagnostic and treatment technologies used in our neuro-oncology program are among the most advanced in the field. For instance, Tampa General was one of the first hospitals in Florida to acquire an intraoperative MRI machine, which provides invaluable real-time imaging during brain tumor surgery. Additionally, our patients have access to a complete range of therapies, such as:
- Stereotactic radiosurgery
- Endoscopic and minimally invasive skull base surgery
- MRI-guided laser ablation (Visualase®)
- Intensity-modulated and image-guided radiation therapy
All of our surgeons have completed rigorous fellowship training in highly specific areas of study, such as skull base neurosurgery, minimally invasive spine neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery. For a physician referral, please call (813) 844-2200.
