Tampa General’s Children’s Medical Center offers pediatric oncology services. The Children’s Medical Center and the University of South Florida are members of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). COG is a National Cancer Institute-supported clinical trials group, and the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to pediatric cancer research. More than 8,000 experts in childhood cancer participate in COG at over 200 member institutions, which include hospitals, universities and cancer centers in North America, New Zealand and Europe. More than 90 percent of children with cancer in the U.S. are cared for at COG member institutions, and COG has nearly 100 active clinical trials that are enrolling pediatric patients. The studies conducted are considered the standard approach to treatment of children with cancer. Qualifying centers must meet strict criteria for pediatric care centers.
