Tampa General Hospital Security Receives National Ranking

Hospital security program ranked first in Tampa Bay, 30^th in the nation by the Security 500 annual report.

Tampa, FL (January 6, 2021) – Tampa General Hospital’s Security program is receiving national recognition in the 14th edition of Security Magazine’s Security 500 annual report.  The report announced in December that Tampa General Hospital’s security team was ranked number one in the Tampa Bay area, and 30^th in the Healthcare sector nationally.  2020 marks the second year in a row that Tampa General ranked in the top 30 security programs in the healthcare industry. Last year, the Security 500 ranking identified Tampa General’s security program as one of the top 500 in the world.

“Our team is comprised of professionals, many of whom are former law enforcement officers or military-trained,” according to Tony Venezia, director of Security, Emergency Management, and Parking Services. “We believe in investing in our team and offering all the tools to be successful to keep our team members and patients safe,” he added.

TGH Security by the Numbers:

• TGH has 80 officers in the security force with 70 stationed at the main campus and the remaining staff at the TGH Brandon Healthplex and Healthpark
• 29 of the officers are armed
• Over 1,100 cameras are placed throughout the main campus
• There are more than 1,200 badge access points, a security feature that restricts access to certain areas, including clinical areas
• Lynx panic buttons are set on every TGH computer
• Over 200 hard-wired panic buttons exist, including at every nurse’s station
• 95 emergency call buttons are placed throughout the parking garage on every floor and at every exit
• Limited entrances (six) into the hospital with armed presence at the high traffic entrances

The Security 500 aims to be a benchmarking report for peers and security teams across all business sectors. Rankings are determined by a number of metrics including:

The Security 500 report includes profiles of leaders in the industry, security budget reports, data among sectors, critical issues for security teams, as well as rankings. Based on a number of metrics, security departments are ranked within sectors. Rankings vary each year depending on those metrics.
