Tampa General Hospital’s Heart Transplant Statistics

Heart transplant statistics for Tampa General Hospital and all other transplant centers in the country are recorded by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). These statistics can be useful for patients who wish to understand the success rates of individual transplant programs, but it is also important to note that the numbers can be affected by several factors. For example, Tampa General Hospital's Heart Transplant Program accepts many high-risk patients who may have been turned away by other transplant centers because our team has the experience and resources necessary to successfully complete more complicated transplants. The SRTR recognizes that every program's success rates should reflect variables such as the patients that it accepts, so the organization provides “expected rates” tailored for each specific program.

According to SRTR data, TGH’s Heart Transplant Program typically exceeds expected rates of success and national patient survival rates. Our patient survival rate isn't the only important fact that can be taken away from our heart transplant statistics. For example, the records show that TGH performs a high volume of heart transplants – in fact, we are one of the highest volume heart transplant list centers in the state of Florida, as well as in the entire nation.

Because every transplant is both an opportunity to serve an individual patient and to gain more experience in the field, the number of transplant procedures performed by our heart transplant program is indicative of our team's overall expertise.
