Tampa General Hospital and Fifth Third Bank Invest in Babies Born on Fifth Third Day

Published: May 6, 2024

Tampa, FL (May 6, 2024) – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) partnered with Fifth Third Bank to award 23 babies born on May 3 at the TGH Women’s Institute with a gift of $1,053 to be put toward a 529 college savings account. Fifth Third Babies has been celebrated across the country since 2017 but this is the first year it has come to Tampa Bay.

“We have partnered with Fifth Third Bank for almost a decade now, and we’re thrilled to participate in Fifth Third Day this year to celebrate babies born on May 3,” said Frann Leppla, senior vice president and chief philanthropy officer, Tampa General Hospital Foundation. “This generous donation to newborns and their families will help them kickstart a lifetime of learning.”

In addition to the college savings donation, new parents received care packages that include food gift cards, a onesie, a bib, a beanie and a Tampa Bay piggy bank. Fifth Third Bank also donated gift bags to the Women’s Institute nursing care teams along with a gift card to buy them lunch on May 3.

“Finding ways to strengthen families and communities is core to what we do, and I cant think of a better way to support parents and children than helping them start saving for the future,” said Cary Putrino, Fifth Third Regional President.

We know that a healthy start to life contributes to better health throughout life and so our team works very hard to provide exceptional care to newborns and their families,” said Melissa Golombek, vice president of Muma Childrens Hospital at TGH and the TGH Womens Institute. Like us, Fifth Third Bank recognizes the importance of a strong start and this initiative provides educational and career opportunities for our newest additions.”

With this generous donation to TGH, Fifth Third is now a member of the TGH Foundation’s Corporate Philanthropy Partners program. To learn more about it, please visit www.tgh.org/cpp.
