Every contribution given unselfishly is an act of philanthropy. Whether large or small, every gift matters, and every gift will make a difference in the lives of our patients and the community in which we live.

Foundation Focus Club

The TGH Foundation Focus Club was created to recognize the community leaders, friends, corporations and foundations that annually support us. This support makes a difference in the lives of the patients and the communities that Tampa General Hospital serves.

Although we can never say thank you enough for the donations that help to make it all happen at Tampa General Hospital, membership in the Foundation Focus Club is an expression of how much we appreciate these generous gifts.

As a member, you will have special opportunities to connect with the Tampa General Hospital community and learn how your contributions make a difference. These opportunities can range from recognition at our annual dinner, to a sneak peak at the cutting-edge facilities and very good care we offer patients, to an exclusive opportunity to dine with the leadership of Tampa General Hospital and learn how we are touching the lives of our patients and addressing community needs.

The Foundation Focus Club recognizes donors who have given $1,000 to $9,999 to the Tampa General Hospital Foundation during a calendar year. There are three recognition levels within the club based on total annual gifts and commitments to the TGH Foundation. In addition, lifetime giving is also recognized beginning at $10,000.  Click here to learn more.

Women’s Leadership Council

The Women’s Leadership Council is the TGH Foundation’s initiative to engage women who want to become more involved with TGH and who want to make a greater impact with their philanthropic support of the hospital.

The purpose of the Women’s Leadership Council is to inspire women to use their power as philanthropists to improve and advance the health care provided to our patients at Tampa General Hospital.

Members contribute $1,000 annually and the collective funds will be allocated to programs or projects selected by the membership. At the third and last meeting of the year, members will vote on how the funds will be used. All funds will go toward the projects, not toward any administrative expenses.

Membership Benefits:

  • By pooling their funds together, the women as a group can create a greater impact with their contribution, than each would make individually.
  • The Women’s Leadership Council provides a unique opportunity for women to become involved and learn more about TGH and network with each other.
Membership is open and renewable annually.

In October 2009, there were eleven funding requests presented to the membership. With 78 members our inaugural year, we had $78,000 available for projects and were able to fund 6 requests for a total of $74,766.

Those requests selected for funding include:
o Infant hearing screening machine
o Bladder scanner for pediatrics
o Blanket warmer for nuclear medicine, CT scan and ultrasound patient areas
o Sleeper sofa for palliative care suite
o Blood pressure monitors for community health screenings
o CD burner for radiology images

Florida Bank is the 2010 Corporate Sponsor of the Women's Leadership Council and their generous support allows every dollar contributed by the membership to go towards funding projects.

Tiny babies. Big priority.

The Tampa General Hospital Foundation is raising money to completely redesign and expand the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Some of Tampa General's patients are tiny newborns in need of extra medical care to ensure the best possible start in life.

This extra care is provided in our NICU, where critically ill babies, premature newborns, and infants requiring close observation can receive the most advanced medical care available. Our 42-bed NICU is designated by the state as a Level III Nursery, the highest rating, and offers a full range of life-saving treatments and technologies that these newborns require.

More than 5,000 babies are born at Tampa General Hospital each year and approximately 15% of them require the NICU's specialized care. In addition, other facilities transfer their seriously ill babies to Tampa General so these infants can also benefit from our care and services.

The original Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General was built in the 1970's and moved to a new location within the hospital in 1986. Many aspects of neonatal care have changed since then. For one, the number of total deliveries, including high-risk deliveries, has substantially increased. In addition, facility design has changed to accommodate today's state-of-the-art treatments. These and other factors make it necessary to completely redesign and expand our NICU.

The Foundation's "Tiny babies. Big priority." campaign will raise a minimum of $7 million to completely redesign and expand the nursery. The new unit will be named the Jennifer Leigh Muma Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

For information on how you can be a part of this exciting campaign, please call the Foundation at (813) 844-7250, or donate now by selecting Neonatal ICU – Tiny Babies Campaign in the Gift Designation dropdown menu.

Innovative Nursing Programs

Tampa General Hospital and the Foundation partnered together to develop an innovative new nursing program, which allows qualified employees the opportunity to "earn while they learn." Employees are able to attend school full-time and work part-time, while maintaining their jobs and benefits. We have been able to increase the number of recipients benefiting from the program, thanks to the generosity of the William A. Gregory Jr., Foundation, the Joy McCann Foundation and the Saunders Foundation. We are looking for other donors interested in finding a solution to the critical nursing shortage that is threatening the United States.

"Through the generosity of the TGH Foundation, it will be possible for me and the other scholarship recipients to join an outstanding staff of caring nurses at TGH. I believe this program will become a cornerstone in how to develop a better workplace by providing employees with educational advancement."- Katrina Yorkey

Legacy - Planned Giving Options

"I would rather die a poor man than be a Vanderbilt and know that at the end of my life I failed to help one needy person who came to me for assistance. I do not care to make money unless I can make it serve the needs of my fellow man." Gordon Keller (October1865 - July 1909) Tampa businessman and beloved citizen.

For many of us, planned giving provides a wonderful opportunity to make a significant contribution to our favorite charity, while providing a tax benefit or lifetime income for our family and ourselves. Planned gifts are a variety of charitable giving methods that allow you to express your personal values by integrating your charitable, family and financial goals. Making a planned charitable gift usually requires the assistance of one of our development professionals and a knowledgeable advisor such as an attorney, financial planner, or CPA to help structure the gift.

Planned gifts can be made with cash, but many planned gifts are made by donating assets such as stocks, real estate, art pieces or business interests - the possibilities are endless. Planned gifts can provide valuable tax benefits and/or lifetime income for you and your spouse or other loved one. The most frequently made planned gifts are bequests to charities, made through your will. Other popular planned gifts include charitable trusts and charitable gift annuities.

Planned gifts give you options for making your charitable gifts in ways that may allow you to:

  • Make a larger charitable gift than you thought possible
  • Increase your current income
  • Plan for the financial needs of a spouse or loved one
  • Provide inheritances for your heirs at a reduced tax cost
  • Reduce your income tax and/or avoid capital gains tax
  • Diversify your investment portfolio
  • Receive income from your personal residence or farm
  • Plan for the transfer of your business
  • Leave a charitable legacy for future generations

Please call (813) 844-7560 with any questions about how you may leave your legacy at Tampa General Hospital. If you have already included the TGH Foundation in your will or estate plans, please call the Foundation and let us know. We would like to thank you in person!

The Golden Tree of Life

"It takes a noble man to plant a seed of a tree that will some day give shade to people he may never meet." - David Trueblood

Tampa General Hospital Foundation's popular commemorative giving program, The Golden Tree of Life, provides you with a wonderful vehicle for celebrating the birth of a child, graduation, wedding, anniversary, retirement (honor gift), or to remember the life of a loved one (memorial gift).

The Golden Tree of Life gracefully adorns the main lobby of the hospital and serves as a tangible and visible sign of your commitment to caring. Every leaf on the Golden Tree of Life represents a gift of $1,000, while a stone represents a gift of $5,000. Each provides a lasting vision of hope and encouragement for the thousands who visit Tampa General Hospital each year. Like a natural tree, the Golden Tree of Life depends on a support system for its continued growth and development. The purchase of a leaf or stone ensures the growth and development of education, services and research that make Tampa General Hospital so special. The Golden Tree of Life will flourish as the community, patients and their families, physicians, and staff continue to purchase leaves and stones.

Donations to the Golden Tree of Life can be made by the following methods:

  • Cash, check, or credit card
  • Pledge (pledges may be fulfilled over one year, with monthly or quarterly installments. Once payment has been fulfilled the leaf or stone will be placed).
  • Gifts of securities

Grateful Patient Program

"The service that your institution provided was exceptional and because of that service, I was able to return home...I am grateful for everyone's help." Grateful Patient

"How can I say thank you to those people who made a difference while I was in the hospital?"
Grateful Patient

The Grateful Patient Program is the answer.

At one time or another, each of us will need to trust our lives or the life of a loved one to a physician and a team of healthcare professionals. The Grateful Patient Program provides an opportunity for patients, friends and families to say "Thank you" for the care received by making a financial contribution to the Tampa General Hospital Foundation. Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated.

From purchasing the most advanced equipment to providing continuing education for nursing and medical staff, your gift benefits TGH each and every day. Your financial contributions help enhance and continue the outstanding level of care our community has come to expect from Tampa General Hospital.

You can direct your gift to certain programs or areas of the hospital that touch you personally or you may make your gift unrestricted, to be used where the need is the greatest. Any amount, to any area of care, is greatly appreciated.

The Tampa General Hospital Foundation will notify the physician, nurse or department that provided your exceptional care of your generous gift through the Grateful Patient Program. All gifts are tax deductible and will be recognized in the hospital's annual report.
